State: | Tasmania | Town/Suburb: | Weldborough | Specific Track Location: | Blue Teir To get to Weldborough, drive to Scottsdale from Launceston and then take the east road out of Scottsdale to Branxholm then through Derby and finally to Weldborough. The turn off to the Blue Tier is about 8km past the pub on the left. The road is about 14k of reasonable quality dirt road but you'll want to take it fairly slow if your not in a high vehicle. There's was a tree over the road (that's probably been cleared by now) but there's a path around it. After about 10k (I think it's about 10k, there's only one road anyway) you'll come to a T intersection, 'Goulds Country' to the right and 'The Blue Tier' to the left, take the left turn off obviously. Keep on up that road for the remaining 4k or 5k and you'll come to the Blue Tier, the road opens out onto an alpine plateau, about 250m along the road there's a car park (just a grassy fenced off area) with a camping ground under the tree's on the other (left) side of the road. | Track Description: | This trail is 14k in length and descends from the Blue Tier camp ground to the Weldborough Pub. The average time taken to ride the trail is 1.5-2 hours. To the right of the camping ground there's a gravel path, this is the start of the trail. At the end of the gravel path (maybe 700-800m) the trail hits a T intersection with a dirt fire road, this is the trail proper, turn right onto the fire road. Ahead of you is about 4k of undulating fire road/open trail with a few boggy marsh area's that aren't so great (no big deal) but after that it's about 5k of sweeeeeet single track and technical descent/climbs. There are three river crossings along the middle section of the track, they are all rideable or walkable and make good catch up points. In the colder months it might pay to walk the rivers but when it's warm just blast through! The next 3k or so is by far the most fun. The creeks and rain have washed away the topsoil leaving big smooth rock faces exposed on this almost entirely downhill section. | Other Information: | | Location Map: | Go to www.whereis.com for maps. | Track Map: | | Track Photos: | |
